Why the Fall Protection Group’s Certified Instructor Program is Ideal for Large Companies

On April 1, 2015, the Ontario Ministry of Labour introduced a new regulation (O. Reg. 297/13) that affected employers of workers at height. It gave Ontario employers a two-year transition period to ensure that all construction workers who use fall protection systems complete an approved working at heights program by April 1, 2017. The deadline for this requirement has been extended by six months to October 1, 2017.

Employers must obtain written proof of enrollment in an approved working at heights program from construction workers that can be provided to an inspector upon request. The proof of enrollment must include: the name of the worker, the date on which approved training will be completed and the name of the approved training program.

Workers on construction sites must complete an approved training program if they use any of the following types of fall protection while on the job:

  • Travel restraint systems
  • Fall restricting systems
  • Fall arrest systems
  • Safety nets
  • Work belts or safety belts

Successfully completing an approved working at heights training program ensures that workers’ training is valid for three years. After the three year period, a refresher program must be taken by the worker on a construction site.

The 3M Canada Fall Protection Group offers an Ontario Ministry of Labour-approved instructor training program to ensure that employers can fully certify their own at height construction workers. The Certified Instructor Fall Protection Working at Heights program prepares instructors to teach the ministry-approved Fall Protection Working at Heights program. This three-day course fully qualifies instructors and gives them the knowledge and tools required to successfully deliver the Fall Protection Working at Heights program to at height construction workers.

For more information about course schedules, please call 1-888-FALLPRO or visit the Certified Instructor Fall Protection Working at Height program registration page. Certified Instructor programs are available in Mississauga, Ontario and can also be offered at your workplace. A certified professional from the Fall Protection Group will visit your workplace to train your trainer, making regulation adaptation as simple as possible.
